Why do cat's hate water???
I'm about to get a kitten, and I want to know do cat's hate water for a reason or is it just an old myth? I want to get my kitten accustom to bath time so I'm thinkin maybe with warm water and tiny little rubber ducks for her to play with or floating balls might do the trick?? Or is there a reason they don't like water??
Of course I do not intend on washing the cat on a regular basis!! I don't want the cat (when she's older) to be afraid of water incase there is something on her fur that needs to be washed off. So i was wondering if I introduced a kitten to water it wouldn't have much to fear as an adult. Therefore making bathtime an ok experience rather than something to fear!
First thing you need to understand, CATS DON'T NEED BATHS! They clean themselves and giving them baths unless they have fleas, ticks, or something really sticky or nasty in their fur is harmful to their skin. Don't do it. If you think cats stink, don't get a cat.
Second of all, not ALL cats hate water. There are some cats that really love water. Others are curious about it but don't exactly like the idea of being plunged in icy or burning water without their permission. Some cats, like mine, will jump in a shallow bath and poke around in the water for a bit out of curiosity on his own terms. However, he'll bolt if you just throw him in.
Most cats don't like water because they don't need to be immersed in it. They can swim but they don't need to. They're domestic animals who bathe themselves. That's the bottom line.
