How do I replace the bolts holding a American Standard toilet to the floor.?
There are 4 studs that come up from the floor that the toilet fits over then nuts are used to secure it. The building is over 60 years old and all the plumbing is original. I have to fix it myself because the landlord will try and stick me with a low-flow if I call him. Most of the studs are rusted out and I don't know how they are attached to the floor. The local home store only has modern fixtures and people who would be unemployable anywhere else. I kind of need to know what I'm looking at so I can get or order the parts so it won't be down for long. Anybody who is knowledgeable on this older style American Standard toilet I would appreciate any light you could shed on this problem.
well the front two will be 1/4" coach screws, machine screws on 1 side and wood screw on the other
the ones on the toilet flange (drain) will be 1/4" x16 machine thread
60 years old the flange will be cast iron or brass. if they break then you will need to drill and re-tap the threads
both bolts should be 21/2" long
thats what you will be looking at
if its original
