Baby Turtle Care/Setup?
Ok I plan on getting a baby Chinese Golden Thread turtle (aka Chinese Golden Stripe Neck) or a Reeves Turtle. I used to have a RES but that was when I was younger and Oregon law prevents me from getting one now.
I'm buying a 10 gallon aquarium for starters and then I will put it in my 75 gallon later on. So I'm buying:
* 10 gallon tank
* glass hood
* UV light strip
* fish tank heater
* basking platform
Please answer all the questions
1. Am I forgetting anything that I need to buy aside from decor and food?
2. Do I need to use water condition like the kind I use for my aquariums or is tap fine?
3. What kind/brand of food should I buy for a baby?
4. Can I use a UV light strip over a glass hood, or should I buy a lamp and then open the hood?
5. Anything else I should know? Anyone have any experience with a Golden Thread or a Reeves Turtle?
1) Forget the decor. A 10-gal. tak will be crowded enough as it is.
2) If you are worried about chlorine, let the water sit in an open container overnight before you put it in the tank. You don't need conditioner.
3) The best foods are earthworms, bait fishes, and liver. Dust the liver in bone meal if you can.
4) UV light won't pass through glass. Open the hood.
