How can I keep my towels free of mold?
Because I live in a tropical/humid climate where it usually rains daily, my towels(and sometimes clothes) will quickly grow mold on them. I do the laundry every day/2 days and hang the washing out where it can get fully dry(but not in sun as the weather turns easily to rain) and even add Napisan(helps get nappies/diapers white) to the wash, but nothing helps.
Has anyone got any tips on how to kill mold without using bleach, as I'm tired of having to buy new bath towels every few months.
I had the same problem when we lived in a humid climate. I tried vinegar, which helped some, but in the end what worked best for me was to get more towels. Then I left them on the line and if they got rained on a few times before I could catch them in a dry period, it was all to the good as they'd effectively been through the rinse cycle several extra times, with nice soft water, so they were much fresher and softer. And since sun is the no.1 mold killer they were in place for when it did choose to shine.
It required a bit of mental adjustment not to worry about how it looked to the neighbours, but they got used to it and once they understood what the idea was several of them started doing it themselves.
I also put a few drops of tea tree oil in the corners of the linen cupboard, which keeps things fresher in there and discourages creepy crawlies too.
